Influence of Technology in Healthcare

Influence of Technology on Healthcare

Due to technical evolution, a whole new healthcare market has emerged and this healthcare market has changed the entire face of the fitness world altogether. Thus, a life filled with family, friends, and work can be difficult which makes it a priority for most of us to stay fit and healthy. For this, technologies have shown a great impact as this also saves our time along with keeping us fit and healthy. Technology has taken the role of prerequisite to perform basic as well as advanced activities in our daily life as it has eased life at every level. People in today’s time are becoming more aware and taking preventive steps for their wellness as the whole process has become easy and quick due to the use of technology at every step.

Clinical Decision Support

The health care professionals are provided with various pieces of information apart from patient-specific information through clinical decision support. This information is intended to enhance the decision of the healthcare provider and is rationally filtered and presented to the healthcare professional at appropriate times. This includes a range of tools to enhance decision-making and the clinical workflow. These tools include notifications, alerts, and reminders to care providers and patients, clinical guidelines, condition-specific order sets, patient-specific clinical summaries, documentation templates, investigation and diagnostic support, among other tools.

Bar Code Medication Administration

The electronic systems that integrate electronic medication administration records with bar code technology is known as bar code medication administration. These systems are intended to prevent medication errors by ensuring that the right patient receives the right medication at the right time. In addition, there are varying levels of sophistication among existing barcode systems as some software produces alerts when sound-alike or look-alike medications may be confused. Others provide clinical advisories for specific medications when scanned, and others may resist with documentation.

Automated Medication Dispensing Technology

Automated dispensing cabinets (ADC) are electronic drug cabinets that store medication at the point of care with controlled dispensing and tracking of medication distribution. These were first used in a hospital in the 1980s, but have evolved to include more sophisticated software and digital interfaces to synthesize high-risk steps in the medication dispensing process. Automated medication dispensing cabinets have been successfully used as a medication inventory management tool that helps in automating the medication dispensing process by minimizing the workload on the central pharmacy and keeping better track of medication dispensing and patient billing.

Genome Sequencing

In the medical field, these technological advancements have allowed many life-saving procedures to become commonplace. Only a few decades ago, just the thought of virtually visiting a doctor from hundreds or thousands of miles away has been difficult to believe. Personal genomics has been called by some the future of healthcare as it refers to the sequencing and analysis of one person’s genome and then giving that person his or her genomic information. In the medical technology of the last 40 years, sequencing the human genome has been one of the greatest advancements in medical technology. Thus, technology is improving health at a rapid pace from remote monitoring tools and wearable medical technology to the sequencing of genomes.
